Lovely spot tucked away in the area. The staff are polite and the food quick and tasty.
Limited selection of beers on tap, and the menu is limited, but has several lovely items.
I'd recommend the Mediterranean starter platter, and sweet potato fries.
The venue has an intermittent bustling night life, with quizzes and live bands, and so if you plan to have a quiet night or are looking for a more social vibe, you should just check to see what activities are on. Busy nights require bookings!
The Step is a community oasis in the middle of Myddleton Road. They do excellent food at good prices and have nice beers / wines. What brings it all together is the friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. They also put on lots of events (music / art/ comedy / quiz evenings etc) so there's always something going on. Great place.
The Step opened on Myddleton Road in Bowes Park just over two years ago, and has established itself as a popular venue for locals with its regular quiz nights and music events.
It's an informal, quirky place with a lovely beer garden out the back, where you can enjoy your drinks or food in the sunshine (when it happens!).
We've eaten there twice and both times have been impressed by the friendly service and great quality food. Breaded camembert is delicious for a starter, as is the potted ham hock.
For mains, the steak and sauteed potatoes with chimmi churri sauce have been excellent on both occasions, and last time I had a chicken and leek pie, which was perhaps ill-advised in the July heatwave, but it was impossible to resist.
Puddings include an exceptional brownie and cheesecake. All are made in-house.
Definitely worth making the trip to North London for, and even better if you are lucky enough to call it your local.
