This is my favourite local Korean restaurant. The fried chicken (do the half’n’half) is worth waiting in the line for! My favourite dish is the prawn and octopus salad. If you don’t want to wait I suggest coming when they open as it will be quieter. It is normal to wait 45min to 90mins in a line outside as this is a very small and popular spot. I wouldn’t come here in a large group as it will be a long wait. They don’t take bookings.
Although at first glance it seems nothing special but once you enter this little place you are about to embark on great food experience. Do not get discouraged by potential queues outside. It’s worth the wait ;)
Now this is a double review!
I have eaten at On the Bab many times in the past but for some reason have never gotten round to reviewing them. But on this occasion, I indulged from the comfort of my bed 🛏! Courtesy of Deliveroo, the food delivery company. I used the app which is very easy to manoeuvre and ordered the food.
The app keeps track of timing so you can see when the food is being prepared and then finally out for delivery. It took roughly 30mins from the time I ordered until delivery. My favourite part of ordering food is watching the food coming towards my home (it is so comforting, trust me).
Anyway, the food is well packaged so arrives in one piece. The packages however were not labelled and this was my first time getting it delivered, I have never encountered this issue. I ordered a mushroom fritter on the bab and fried chicken on the bab. My sister and I had to really analyse the two packages for identification and then finally decided that she will take the fist bite out of one of them to confirm.
I however, being an advocate for the masses, called On the Bab to let them know that the boxes were not labelled and what confusion is caused to be told that they don’t usually label the boxes as they have too many orders to process (a simple ‘M’ would suffice). On explaining I was a vegetarian, he then lets me know the mushroom fritter is fried in the same oil as the chicken......
Luckily I am not strict with my dietary choices, but for those who are, it needs to be made more clear. Altogether a great service and I do like On the Bab and it was my sister’s first time trying it and she thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you’re going to eat in store, be mindful it is a small store so expect queues outside! Highly recommended however! ..and remember, lots of people means it’s good!
Being a big fan of Korean food, it wasn't hard to be convinced to try out On the Bab (I had not been to any of the other branches before). The food is convincing, the atmosphere is noisy but the service is quick. The bibimbap made justice, and the octupus with kimchi is remarkable. We also had a small portion of the sweet spicy fried chicken, which we ended up eating as a starter. Looking forward to try one of the other branches!
The place was quite busy. Had a line outside a few moments after I arrived. Had the bibimbab. It was good. Had some nice flavours but I've had this dish many times and it wasn't quite as good as some others. Overall a nice meal but I think the had my expectations too high.
We ordered the fried chicken in two flavours: garlic mayo and sweet spicy - we all like garlic mayo more. Additionally, we also ordered beef bibimbab and kimchi jeon, both dishes are in good portion and authentically captured the flavours of Korean cuisine.
Have always done takeout with them and loved going to dine in. A nice and simple Korean Street Food place. Everything they make with kimchi is delicious. Try the version of arancinis with cheese and kimchi that they have, and the bibimbap is also amazing!
On the bab is literally one of my top and favourite restaurants to come to. Every single dish is amazing and packed with flavour + colour. I also think that their price point is pretty good and definitely worth it for what you are getting. Their team and manager is also always lovely whenever I visit. I am so happy that I discovered this place.
really nice little spot! everything tasted really fresh. highly recommend the bibimbap (we got spicy pork), korean fried chicken, side of kimchi, and the pancakes.
Nice atmosphere and very good and fast service. Tasty food, very good portions and good prices, definitely try the buns and the fried chicken. No reservations, thus on a Friday night we had to wait almost an hour for a table as we were a group of three. Every group of two that came after us got a table faster. We were a bit unlucky I guess but I don’t recommend it for big groups.
