This place .... what can I say !
My friend recommended it to me, and I will always love for him for that. It's huge, like you have to literally spend 15 minutes working through the turns and the rooms to explore this church turned pub. The collection of beers is reasonable. I only had my regular Guinness there. A little tough to find a table (on a Thursday evening), but try - it's going to be worth it.
There is live rock (at least on Thurs, Fri and Sat).
When I visited 'the hares' was playing. Besides being super talented and engaging, they are very handsome. :-) gave me an idea of the quality of bands that play here, excellent !!
Fun evening ...
Good (live) music, good drinks and very quiet corners to have a chat with your friends...great ambiance but ı believe it is mostly related with the decoration.
If you're ever playing tour guide in London then this is a place to wow your guests, with the added benefit of a Guinness for your troubles, rather than queues, rip off ticket prices and snapping tourists.
An unassuming doorway near to Leicester Square (important: for maximum effect take the back entrance) and a staircase descending into darkness, your tour party will look at you skeptically, particularly when you bet them a beer that the bar has a tree inside. But watch their sideways looks turn into wonderment as their eyes adjust to the darkness and they take in the vastness of the gothic catacombs that make up this subterranean crypt dedicated to Irish alcohol worship. Saunter to the downstairs bar, order the drinks, and casually point out the tree in the corner, and say those beloved words "your round, I believe?"
