This dark underworld beneith Charing Cross is a step back in time to old London. Litterally sawdust on the floor and drinks in barrels, you won't find nasty lager here. This is wine bar meets real ale pub with the culanary excellence of a gastro-pub. My favourite is a cheeseboard with a half pint of vintage port in a pewter tankard. Great atmosphere, great food and outstanding bevvies.
Lovely place to spend a night.
I visited for a company dinner and we all had a great time. Definitely a great variety of wines.
The food was nice and well prepared but nothing exciting. Their strong point is definitely the drinks department. The premises are really interesting. Really nice atmosphere. Will need to go back with less people to have a better experience of the service.
A lovely place which has become something of an institution.
Plenty of nooks and crannies to sit in, some bookable areas, confortable main area. Staff are great, and they now serve lager (which is great, even if I had developed a taste for their pewter tankards of ale). Convenient for transport too (between Charring Cross mainline and Embankment tube)
