South Kensington isn’t somewhere that immediately springs to mind for good Indian food. In fact, when I lived down the road, in West Brompton, I despaired of finding a good Indian restaurant and instead used to visit Taiwan Village to indulge in hot, spicy Taiwanese dishes. If only I’d found Thali, I might never have left. Actually, that’s simply not true – but finding a local Indian must be high on the list of desirables for anyone looking for a new home.
Curry taken up a notch. Loads of great things to try in this cracking North Indian restaurant. Started with some dece starters: lamb chops w/ a really good mint sauce, surprisingly tasty crispy spinach salad, chicken biriyani w/ an amazing (mild) mustard sauce, scallops & samosas good too.
Our mains were usual suspects Chicken Tikka & Lamb Rogan J, but done very well.
Service good, house bottle of red good. Price the premium you'd expect for the quality/area but not through the roof.
Overall a good shout
Surely the samosa has to be the best food invention ever? There should even be a national samosa day – one which I’m happy to endorse. They’re crispy, golden, come in my guises and are absolutely jam-packed with flavour in only a few tiny bits. Often they’re accompanied by a good tamarind sauce or coriander chutney too – taking the samosa experience up just another notch. Getting our samosa fix on, we found ourselves visiting a South Kensington institution, Thali Restaurant on the bustling Old Brompton Road.
