A friend of mine from Cyprus scheduled a trip down to Halepi, so we could try food from his home country.
Halepi looks like a very Greek-esque tavern, which adds to the experience. The food is phenomenal and in great quantity. We had amazing starters, from humus, to darama (a fish based paste). The come leaves, similar to the Greek domames, are even better than the before-mentioned, followed by mussaka, fried prawns, baskets and baskets of freshly baked heavenly pita bread, culminating with 4 or 5 humongous trays with char grilled meat, tender and succulent. We had no sides, just shear will power to eat as much as possible. All washed down with Keo, a Cypriot lager that is quite enjoyable. We ended paying quite a lot of money for the meal, rather an expensive lot indeed, but we ate like kings until we are fully fed and then beyond that until almost sickness. Probably next time we shall settle for less than an ogre's portion. While there are vegetarian options, if you enjoy deliciously grilled meat, this is a place to go.
