The Ship and Shovell is quite simply my favourite pub in London. First- the beer selection is great- they have Badger beers (of which I'm a fan). Second, they have Canada dry, which is great. Third- I'm a naval historian.. and I love that it's named for Cloudesley Shovell, who is from the period i study. I love that its in two halves, I love how cozy it is. Don't love how it can get crowded- but it's great.
Great London Pub x2. Two for the price of one, this pub is divided by Craven's Passage so you have to choose which part of the pub you go in. This is a quintisential British pub in terms of decor, style, ales and ambiance. Food is pub grub and beer is Hall and Woodhouse - Badger Ales.
Not bad, great for taking Americans to get the London traditional London pub vibe.
So, when in Rome, do as the Romans do, and when in London, go have some Fish & Chips. I did so with friends at the Ship and Shovell Pub, and I was delighted by their service, their hospitality and their food. I really enjoyed my English luncheon, the place is tidy and well kept and if you are nearby, drop in, have a cold one and enjoy their food!
