Nestled underneath the Dorset Square Hotel appears this gem of a place called the Potting Shed. Located only moments from Baker Street station, this English Brasserie is a hidden treasure if you ask me.

The restaurant is designed by the very talented co-owner for the Firmdale Hotel group, Kit Kemp. Also known for the famous Charlotte Street Hotel and more recently, Ham Yard in Piccadilly circus. As you enter the under ground establishment you will notice there is a heavy theme of cricket bats and in particular a rather large wall made up of 198 small cup lights of cricket players and their sayings. Very cleverly designed so that only a certain amount of these light up to make a sentence. Lets say attention to detail has not been spared here. While we are on the cricket subject, there is also something particularly special about this place that you must know about. Originally it was the 'Old Lords' Cricket ground and the first of three back in 1787. Hence why you will see a ton of memorabilia throughout the hotel including in the bathroom and down to the cricket ball handles on the wardrobe doors.

The first thing I noticed about this place was how wonderful the staff were. Service is certainly not a problem here that's for sure....

After scrolling through their extensive cocktail list and having a really hard time deciding what to order, I was recommend the ginger martini which I will say was absolutely divine and no different to having an apple and ginger juice if im totally honest. This could be deadly :)

The food menu had a selection of English classics ranging from starters of soup and plenty of seafood options. The seared scallops were my starter pick followed by the braised leg of Cornish lamb for the main. I promise you this decision has nothing to do with the fact that I am a kiwi and I love my lamb (not biased). The scallops were beautifully cooked and an interesting mix with the pea puree. The lamb was falling off the bone and perfectly cooked to my fussy standards. A few sides of root vegetables and spinach to add to that plus a of glass of some incredible good Italian wine is enough to make any meal complete. (If your asking it was the Mavum Corvina Cabernet Sauvignon - a must).

As per normal I was feeling rather full but lusting over which dessert I was going to dig into. The red wine poached pear and the classic sticky toffee pudding looked very appetising and not over the top sweet. The pear in particular was very juicy with only a hint of wine after taste left in your palate.

.....Just when you thought it was all over (but wait there's more!) we were offered mini wafer cones with a selection of sorbet (mango or raspberry) which I thought was a very nice touch even though I was nearly bursting at the seams!

This place is outstanding. Flawless. There isn't anything I could fault about it, from the exceptional service, warm homely ambiance and overall generously sized meals at very reasonable prices.

Located in the Middle of the Baker Street and Dorsert Square the Potting Shed Bar and Restaurant offer a great and cozy atmosphere in one of the marvelous  London Hotels-  Dorset Square Hotel.
The closest tube stations to the venue are Baker Street and Marylebone railway and underground station.
The cuisine in the restaurant is mostly British with Eastern European style.  I would recommend to start with smoked salmon and cranberries or with the soup of the day and continue with Wild Mushroom risotto or try their amazing Potting Shed Burger with French Fries as a main meals, combined with bottle of French white wine from their A La Carte Menu.

Very cute place in a slightly obscure but lovely place Dorset Sq near Baker St. It's in the Dorset Sq hotel which is part of the Ferndale group, owner the similarly cute and homely Soho Hotel (Refuel restaurant) and Charlotte St hotel.
Potting Shed is downstairs in a conservatory, nice little bar and smallish restaurant which makes if feel quite exclusive. Very uplifting decor with pastel shades, reminds me a bit of the Fountain. Slightly curious feature is the cricket photos and bats. This used to be a gentlemans club where visiting cricket teams stayed.

I took my secretary here just before Christmas to thank her for all her hard work during the year
