Very cute interior and really tasty food. It is relatively expensive but worth it. I went to meet up with a friend there and I decided to go for the ham, chorizo and smoked bacon croquetas. They come in 8 pieces. Eight pieces of heaven. I asked the waitress to bring me some bravas dip on the side which I thought was a great addition to the overall taste. As a main, I had the beef ribeye steak topped with pan-friend foie gras. It was great. I was making sounds with every bite. I tried their passion and mango sangria which was nice but I am a fan of the traditional red sangria. Definitely recommended and a must try. Waitress was friendly and helpful and servicr was prompt.
To carry on with Tapas theme. I went to Lobos Meat and Tapas yesterday before heading to Ally Pally. This little place is situated between Borough Market and the arches under the bridge. You might had walked pass it with a blink of an eye!
This place was dimly lit interior with wood panels to put your hat or coat to hang but it had a warm feel to it. I was greeting in Spanish and chose to sit facing the entrance from the main road.
They too instantly served me water and I ordered a 4 dishes; Padron peppers, Tortilla, Pan-fried Prawns & Squid and a mixed mushrooms.
The padron peppers is a staple of Spanish appetisers which is cooked well and seasoned with sea salt. The Tortilla looked like what I am used to see that differs from Barrifina's version. It contained potatoes, onions and peppers. But I cannot help to think it felt a little stoggy around the edges. The mixed mushroom had allsorted mushrooms cooked with croutons, tenderstem broccoli in truffle oil with a fried egg on top. I like mushrooms cooked this way as it brings out the fresh earthy flavour and the egg gives it a rich texture. The Pan-fried Prawns & Squid was cooked with chilli, garlic, grilled sliced lemon and fried basil leaves. This dish had a light citrusy tartness to cut the strong chilli and garlic leaving a mild hum after taste. It was the my dish of the day for me. The service was alright, I did go there towards the end of their lunch orders so they were looking for a slight rest before starting again in the evening.
The question is would I go there again? Yes I would but I rarely venture around London Bridge anyway so this could be a one- off trip.
What a great dinner at Lobos last Saturday evening. We sat just by the kitchen which, being open-plan, allowed us see and smell everything coming out... we soon realised it would be hard to narrow down our choices as it all looked great!
Just to name a few, we had the octopus&peppers salad, the chorizo and morcilla, the croquetas, the rice (so good and crispy!). The tortilla and mushrooms are great alternatives for vegetarians. The only dish that disappointed me were the Patatas bravas. I know that the secret is in the sauce. However this one was very spicy (not necessarily y negative) and the smokey flavour was a big defeat.
We still had some space for some luscious dulce de leche cheesecake (however do share it, it is a lot of sugar for one!).
Oh wait...it's midnight and we barely noticed that the kitchen had quietened down and there's no one left apart from the waiters eating and ourselves... but no one rushed us to leave nonetheless... making it an even better dining experience!
