Very cute interior and really tasty food. It is relatively expensive but worth it. I went to meet up with a friend there and I decided to go for the ham, chorizo and smoked bacon croquetas. They come in 8 pieces. Eight pieces of heaven. I asked the waitress to bring me some bravas dip on the side which I thought was a great addition to the overall taste. As a main, I had the beef ribeye steak topped with pan-friend foie gras. It was great. I was making sounds with every bite. I tried their passion and mango sangria which was nice but I am a fan of the traditional red sangria. Definitely recommended and a must try. Waitress was friendly and helpful and servicr was prompt.
To carry on with Tapas theme. I went to Lobos Meat and Tapas yesterday before heading to Ally Pally. This little place is situated between Borough Market and the arches under the bridge. You might had walked pass it with a blink of an eye!
This place was dimly lit interior with wood panels to put your hat or coat to hang but it had a warm feel to it. I was greeting in Spanish and chose to sit facing the entrance from the main road.
They too instantly served me water and I ordered a 4 dishes; Padron peppers, Tortilla, Pan-fried Prawns & Squid and a mixed mushrooms.
The padron peppers is a staple of Spanish appetisers which is cooked well and seasoned with sea salt. The Tortilla looked like what I am used to see that differs from Barrifina's version. It contained potatoes, onions and peppers. But I cannot help to think it felt a little stoggy around the edges. The mixed mushroom had allsorted mushrooms cooked with croutons, tenderstem broccoli in truffle oil with a fried egg on top. I like mushrooms cooked this way as it brings out the fresh earthy flavour and the egg gives it a rich texture. The Pan-fried Prawns & Squid was cooked with chilli, garlic, grilled sliced lemon and fried basil leaves. This dish had a light citrusy tartness to cut the strong chilli and garlic leaving a mild hum after taste. It was the my dish of the day for me. The service was alright, I did go there towards the end of their lunch orders so they were looking for a slight rest before starting again in the evening.
The question is would I go there again? Yes I would but I rarely venture around London Bridge anyway so this could be a one- off trip.
What a great dinner at Lobos last Saturday evening. We sat just by the kitchen which, being open-plan, allowed us see and smell everything coming out... we soon realised it would be hard to narrow down our choices as it all looked great!
Just to name a few, we had the octopus&peppers salad, the chorizo and morcilla, the croquetas, the rice (so good and crispy!). The tortilla and mushrooms are great alternatives for vegetarians. The only dish that disappointed me were the Patatas bravas. I know that the secret is in the sauce. However this one was very spicy (not necessarily y negative) and the smokey flavour was a big defeat.
We still had some space for some luscious dulce de leche cheesecake (however do share it, it is a lot of sugar for one!).
Oh wait...it's midnight and we barely noticed that the kitchen had quietened down and there's no one left apart from the waiters eating and ourselves... but no one rushed us to leave nonetheless... making it an even better dining experience!
Excellent food!
It was my first time at this restaurant but it was a wonderful experience in regards to the quality of the food and drinks.
The place is casual, and no tables outside. Still it's cozy! Some areas is the restaurant are a bit tight but manageable.
Love the meat!! You should all try it!!
Time for yet more Spanish tapas? Hell yeah. On another London Bridge session, we hunted out this Spanish Gem next to Borough Market. Down a dark tunneled alley way off the main road, you happen on this two floor tapas joint where it can be a tight squeeze. There is always a waiting list at peak times, so its best to get in as early as you can.
Amazing place! Totally recommend for a nice dinner.
We didn’t had a booking and they managed to find us a table upstairs.
The menu is mainly tapas with very good selection of wines.
Paella is a tad pricy for the size; only enough for 2 to have a few spoons of it each.
The staff were great, service was excellent!
Totally recommend
A tiny place tucked under the railway bridge and it’s a really unique and enjoyable spot for tapas. You could easily walk past without noticing and there’s very few tables on the ground floor, but make it up the steep narrow steps and you’re greeted with brilliant service on the tiny tables beneath the low ceiling. The open kitchen is nice to see when heading to the table and everywhere is clean, including the tiny toilets which are in the basement.
The small nature of the place does mean your elbow hits the wall, and the bright light on the wall annoyingly couldn’t be dimmed, but everything else was great. The waiter was able to recommend certain dishes and the menu has a good range, without being excessively large. All the food was served in very good time and presentation nice. Great flavour and good portion sizes made it reasonable value, but it admittedly didn’t end up being a cheap lunch and that fairly steep price is the only thing stopping me giving full marks.
I’d love to return here and if meat or tapas in a more unique setting is what you’re looking for I’d recommend.
This was a nice restaurant. Firstly, the location is brilliant. It’s set underneath a railway bridge, and has a cozy and unique vibe. It feels intimate and warm. The staff are friendly and accommodating, and the food didn’t take too long to arrive. The food here was ok, but it’s not the best tapas I’ve ever had. Similarly, the espresso martini was good but not amazing. Overall, I liked this place but I’m not sure I’d visit again as I felt the food quality could have been a little better for the price paid, although it was not terrible by any means.
Food is very nice and nicely made, great flavours too. I only wish the menu had a bit more variety. The staff are super friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is amazing too.
Always a treat for a local
In the heart of Borough Market.
Prices are high, but normal in the area.
Great staff. And my sort of Music.
Perfect to treat visiting friends, and get them to pay 💪
