Very friendly staff and family-run business, pleasant 40-min round trip, nice cup of tea and lovely views. Be aware the narrow boat is a little tight (it's narrow!). Didn't get to try the cafe since we had a following trip but the folks in there looked to be enjoying themselves too!
Really nice staff fun and witty taug us a bit of Welsh very helpful .nice experience recommend this trip 😀
This is a retrospective review based from my visit back in June. My small group of 4 really enjoyed our trip as part of a surprise trip for my Mum's birthday.
We went on the Sunday lunch trip and we we're all pleasantly surprised by the good quality and plentiful amount of food offered which consisted of a drink to begin with, followed by a traditional roast dinner and dessert as well as coffee for afterwards. Crucially the vegetarian option for Mum also went down very well!
It's a relaxing 2 hour meander passing through the Welsh countryside with an interesting (and sometimes humorous) commentary culminating in a trip over the famous Pontcysyllte aqueduct, a world heritage site. You actually have 2 trips over the aqueduct itself; one nearing the end of the trip and then the boat reverses before returning over the aqueduct once again to head back to the wharf outside of Trevor.
The views over the Dee valley below you, the surrounding hills and lush countryside are breathtaking and cruising at 4 mph and with two trips over the "stream in the sky", it offers plenty of photo opportunities! I made the booking with Peter a few days prior giving him our menu options over the phone and found him and his staff on the day to be very friendly and attentive.
I have read some previous reviews saying the cabin got very hot and "packed" with people, I feel it may just be the nature of the narrowboat? Don't expect a modern yacht quality cabin however I can imagine it can get uncomfortably hot with the heat during the hottest days of the summer.
On our trip I think they're we're 6 set tables in the cabin and all had guests seated for the trip but I and my party didn't once feel like we we're claustrophobic, however it's true the cabin is narrow and intimate but only as you would expect being on a narrowboat.
There is a limited amount of car parking available by the cafe back at the wharf and where you can have a warm beverage and light snacks whilst you wait to board the boat. Toilets also located here. Inside the cafe there's also a small but very interesting collection of memorabilia associated with the Llangollen Canal and Pontcysyllte which I enjoyed looking through while we waited to board.
At £28 p.p and finding the meal to be of good quality it's the price I'd expect to pay for a good pub meal out except for the changing beautiful scenery being on the boat, so all in all I feel it was good value and I would recommend this business for a very pleasant and lazy way to spend an afternoon!
