Interesting food with a touch of Beatle nostalgia, the food is done well and with care. The wine list is good and has a broad range. The menu is a little limited but what they have is good.
Blakes is situated in the Hard Days Night hotel, so naturally, it's 'Beatle themed'. The restaurant is decorated with rare Beatles artwork and the band's hits are played in the background while you dine. All of this kept my Beatles fan boyfriend happy while I, the food fan, focused on the food.
This is a fine dining restaurant so the menu is a bit on the pricey side but that is, as you would expect, reflected in the quality of the food. We had a 20% off voucher in our hotel room (we were staying at the Hard Days Night hotel) which was great.
I had the pork cheek, ham hock bon bon, sweed and apple and mustard compote. The dish was delicious, I especially liked the bon bon as it was something different. Craig had the steak and chips which he liked although thought it was a bit small! For dessert, Craig had the lemon meringue with lemon sorbet which looked great, and I had the Pina Colada. This was presented in a large mug and had some interesting layers to work through. The first was an aerated rum custard, then a creamy coconut cheesecake and then pieces of roast pineapple at the bottom. Heaven!
Despite not caring less about the Beatles I had a great dinner, with great food and great friendly staff. I would recommend to anyone.
Get a menu deal.. Been a few times but only for the special menu deals. Have always enjoyed the food and I've found the staff to be helpful but a little slow.. The restaurant itself is too brightly lit in my opinion which detracts from the experience and atmosphere. Also, the menu is overpriced if you don't get a deal.
