Great food, shame about the housekeeping. The food here is lovely and so are the bar staff but The Red Lion was woefully in need of a bit of TLC last time we visited. No exactly sticky, but at the risk of sounding like Hyacinth Bucket it could definitely do with a good tidy up, nothing that a good DIY man couldn't handle.
Having said that, the pub itself is charming, the food (especially Sunday lunch) is really, really good and, if you're a bit more laid back than me about the slightly neglected exterior and wonky bog seat, you would have absolutely nothing to complain about here.
A fair few people in, but plenty of spacing between tables means it doesn't feel crowded, just a really nice atmosphere. Service was superb.
I had:
Crispy beef with cashews, served with an unbelievably thick, sticky, sweet sauce with Chile to give it heat. With a side of onion rings (see pics). Delicious.
Sausage and mash - three large, tasty, juicy sausages of the best quality I've had in years.
Tiramisu with a coffee ice-cream and a rich chocolate sauce.
Not cheap, but very good value for money. A wonderful place.
I was really impressed with our first visit to The Red Lion. Atmosphere was very nice, service was excellent and a good menu, and very tasty food well presented.
Only slight drawback was the toilets are upstairs. Plenty of car parking and outside seating and gardens too. All round pleasent experience.
