This is a nice and popular pub, so I'd recommend booking in advance if you want to go for a meal.
We visited on a weekday lunchtime and it was very busy, but there was only one member of staff, serving drinks, taking food orders and clearing tables, so we waited at the bar for quite a while to get served and seated, as there were a couple of groups waiting in front of us.
Given the workload, the one staff member was doing an admirable job, and all with a smile, quite commendable. She did a superb job single-handedly.
The food was excellent and was served fairly quickly.
Had there been another member of staff sharing the workload, I'd have given 5 stars.
We've just moved to the area and the Huntsman was the first pub we've visited. We thoroughly enjoyed our lunchtime visit. Prices were good, the food was ok to good (it's not a gastro pub) and the beer was great with a choice of 3 hand pulled types. Service was excellent and the staff very friendly. We'll be back for a Sunday roast at some point and hope to frequent this pub quite often.
Nice little pub run by nice people. Very traditional fare and basic pub foods with large portions. Good beer and deserves to have enough throughput to sell more ale. Unpretentious and uncomplicated in a beautiful old pub
