Great stop off pub. Went here on a bike ride for a quick burger and drinks. The burger was incredible and tasted soo fresh. Also the chips were perfectly cooked and tasted like they were cut that morning. Also all on 1 plate which was so much easier to eat from. Compared to a lot of pubs that decide you need 3 different bowls for a simple burger. Highly recommend !
Food was amazing as always, absolutely love the atmosphere every time we have been, nice and chilled. Service has never been an issue here either would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to go.
We were well-fed and well looked after at the Rusty Gun on a Saturday evening when many other places couldn't fit a party of 11 people at 8pm. We arrived almost two hours early, hoping to squeeze into a corner or take one of the tables outside temporarily, but our table was ready (it was in the shop area), so we could start our evening early: first bonus! The staff were friendly and efficient, and we had a quiet space (no raucous music drowning out conversation) to relax until the whole of our party turned up. We order platters for sharing - the seafood platter was a favorite - and then turned to the mains. Unfortunately, some of the dishes were sold out, but alternatives were available and eventually we were all satisfied. Again, staff were super helpful - even at the end of a busy day, nothing seemed too much trouble. I had the Taste of the Rusty Gun - an enormous helping of pork-based food, accompanied with new potatoes (delicious, everyone stole one!) and a side salad. Honestly, it defeated me, and that happens rarely - I couldn't quite finish the plate, but everything was good: sticky ribs, sausage, pork belly and a massive Scotch egg that finally finished my appetite. I probably shouldn't have sneaked so many of the enormous chips from other dishes, but they were also very delicious! There were decent vegetarian options too, just in case you were worried - four of our party were vegetarian (although some are fish-eaters) - the Moving Mountains Burger comes very highly recommended by one friend.
Well worth a visit. The shop has an eclectic mix of souvenirs and knick-knacks, including pictures, bottles and jars to eat and drink, sheepskins and roast coffee. There's seating outside for the warmer evenings, and a barbecue for outdoor meals (not running when we were there). You can visit their rare breed pigs, and feed them pig nuts - great for little kids. The overall setting is great, and on the drive home we stopped to watch a herd of deer cross the road ahead of us in the darkness. Quite the countryside experience!
