Beautiful old pub with deceptive space and ambience, nice food, lovely friendly service and were happy to cater for my 3 year old son to share our dinner rather than order a whole meal for him
We called in on spec, being in town for a function.. We were early doors, so chef needed a little time to get up and running. No matter, we sat with a couple of drinks whilst we perused the menu. My wife is coeliac so we needed some special dietary requirements. The menu offered several options which Sara could eat, and as she loves fish and chips - which is not often available in GF she opted for that. I also went along with this choice, saying that I was happy to make chef's life a little easier. I was informed that all GF is prepared in separate cookers/fryers anyway, still I went with the GF option too. We were not disappointed! The meal was lovely, although on first sight the batter did look slightly pale, we needn't have worried as it was absolutely delicious, a lovely, crunchy and tasty accompaniment to the light, flaky fish. Add to this lovely home made chunky chips and tartare sauce and sublime mushy peas this was a truly lovely meal. Sara was more than pleased, and I was glad I'd chosen GF, although I feel sure the regular fish and chips would have been equally superb. The staff were very friendly, helpful and accommodating too. All in all highly recommended. Thank you The Griffin!
Very welcoming only complaint we booked a table by a window but never got it . Staff were very polite ,friendly and helpful.
