This is fast becoming one of my favourite places on the Old Town High Street. I first visited when it opened a few years back and instantly loved the vibe; it had all the quirk of a Berkhamsted cafe but without the pretentiousness or outrageous prices that alienate so many - and perhaps that's their intention. Elbows Off The Table then teaches them all a lesson in humility; home cooked food, a warm staff team eager to chat, a laid back atmosphere and all at a competitive price. Even dogs are welcome. It all feels a bit like being in your own front room, albeit with a much cooler decor.
The other reason I love it so much is that as an independent business, the owner understands the importance of community and supporting local talent, namely the artists whose work he sells in in the cafe. The walls are covered in an assortment of prints, originals and photography spanning an eclectic mix of styles. It's a joy sitting there alone and taking in the work on display, as much as it is going with friends for coffee and conversation. A must visit.
Fabulous independent coffee shop with a great buzz and community feel.
Nestled in the charming Hemel Old Town this lovely little coffee shop is a real haven. Overlooking Gadebridge park and the historic St Mary's Church it's a great place to come after a walk. (Dogs are welcome too - there's even a water bowl outside for thirsty hounds to rehydrate after a walk in the park).
The Walls are adorned with interesting artwork that you can buy and the locally roasted coffee is excellent.
For breakfast try the bacon and avacado toast or the peanut butter, cinnamon and banana toast.
A fantastic place to unwind and relax with good coffee, cakes and a truly wonderful atmosphere. The staff are also really friendly and accommodating. The certainly the best coffee shop in Hemel Hempstead.
