Visiting the city recently for my birthday, I decided that I'd like oysters and champagne so we headed to the Rogano. A bottle of house champers and oysters were ordered at the bar but it didn't take long to get a booth. The oysters were superb and we were served extra due to a mistake at the kitchen end. To follow, we had a seafood platter and french fries which was just right at that time of day. As I'd mentioned it was my birthday, I was served petites fours with happy birthday on a platter.
First time eating here and the atmosphere, decor and service were all excellent.
Went for the 4 course taster menu which also had a canapés and Amuse Bouche and fresh bread so great value and filling also.
Everything was perfect although the salmon main on a fish cake, was a bit dense, and the salmon was definitely over cooked which surprised me being a seafood restaurant.
They also did chocolates to finish for our anniversary!
1935 was quite a year, also an election year actually. The Conservatives won a majority, Labour collapsed and the SNP contested it’s very first election, hmmm… The SS Normandie broke the record for a passenger ship crossing the Atlantic in a rapid three days, Alcoholics Anonymous was founded and Monopoly was released by Parker Brothers. 1935 was the year Lawrence of Arabia died, but Julie Andrews (Super...) and Elvis (Uh-huh) were born. In the great shipyards of the Clyde luxury liners like the Queen Mary were being built and some of the chippies took the left overs and did a homer, the result was a wood panelled, art deco extravaganza of a restaurant. Rogano was born.
