This is an excellent Indian restaurant in a good location for Charing Cross and opposite the Premier Inn where we were staying, we made a note to return one night and were glad we did. It was quiet that night but I understand that the place gets busy at the weekend, it was clean, the service was good and the prices decent. The menu options were not the most extensive I've come across but the food was excellent, maybe not the best Indian I've ever had but very very good, sizeable portions and all in all a thoroughly fine meal.
You are not short of dining options in Glasgow but this place is certainly recommended.
I stopped in late on a weekday (late generally being anything after 6 p.m. apparently in Glasgow although this was closer to 9:30) after striking out at numerous other pubs and restaurants that had already stopped serving. The buffet had been shut down, but they were happy to offer food off the al a carte menu. This is a family owned business that shows pride of ownership. Waseem, 3rd generation owner, claimed the restaurant had been operating for over 40 years, one of the oldest Indian restaurants in Glasgow. Such a charming gentleman, he served me personally which is likely a good thing as the initial server was a bit rough around the edges. Aside from some pleasant banter, Waseem made sure my selections were suited to my tastes. It was refreshing to see such engagement with the customer, particularly at the end of a long day for him. The restaurant decore is tastefully Indian and immaculately kept. Fresh white linens adorn each table. Lighting is sufficiently bright to avoid the dungeon appearance preferred by some restaurants. I had a spicy soup and some minced lamb samosas for a starter. The samosas were perfect and nicely accompanied by a sweet creamy sauce. The Dahl soup had enough zing to curl my hair, if I had any. I had something akin to a butter chicken, basmati rice and a black bean vegetable dish all of which were nicely done. Some Cobra beer and garlic Naan helped me wash down my meal and sop up the wonderful sauce of the butter chicken. The Naan was literally too hot to touch as it was delivered to my table. Made with fresh garlic and no butter (that's the tastiest way says the owner), there was no doubt about the garlic -its presence could not be denied. It was delicious. All in all, a great dining experience. Perhaps it is just the timing or the restaurant has improved over the last year or two, but in my opinion, the Koh-I-Noor deserves more recognition than it has been given.
