Obviously it was an amazing experience as always, went in to settle my bill from the Friday before, upon entering this fantastic establishment there was an aromour in the air that I couldn't quite put my finger on, the smell of peppers and kidney beans that made the mouth water and the hint of oregano and chilli started getting my tongue excited, my brain saying "no just pay the bill and get out while you still can" my heart and stomach however could not resist the urge to add the chilli rice and chips to the bill before settling, best decision ever, also by the time it came to leaving I noticed the time, to most people it was just 4pm but for myself and anyone else filling a seat at the schooner on that Monday it wasn't just 4pm, it was schooner pizza time, I got the first schooneroni off the line to take away and enjoyed it in the comfort of my own home.
The schooner isn't just a great bar in Gateshead, it's a second home and a way of life
Well - after driving past the sign for this pub hundreds of times and thinking 'one day I'll visit there' I actually did it! Armed with my Dad, Son and young granddaughter I ventured across the threshold. What a smashing little boozer.
Free WiFi and heavens be praised- no telly or piped music so loud you need sign language to communicate with each other. Canny food menu too.
Chewed the cud with Adrian and swapped local memories - Cheers! In the words of Arnie - I'll be back.
The third visit and hopefully not my last the reason my beloved Guiseley play Gateshead in the national league. I have eaten here on my last 2 occasions and had Bambi in a bun. Its lovely the beer top notch. 6 handpumps. Love this place
