EAT ART BARTER!
Big fan of this place for soooooo many reasons.
From brunch to lunch to supper.
The concept behind this place fantastic!Restaurant meets art space, where you can eat some amazingly original, beautifully created, mouth watering dishes ... off of plates and bowls made by local artists and customers.
Custom source as much of their food and as locally as possible, whether from the artisan bakers next door, the fishermen over the harbour, or foraged from coast or country. It is as hyper local as it gets!
With this in mind, the food is super seasonal, capitalising on all the foods on offer at particular points of the year.
Custom have some great drinks on offer too, including wine from the local vineyard up the hill, tea from a stone's throw along the coast and beers from nextdoor (same people as the bakery) and much more.
Aside from the food, their artistic programme sees Custom collaborate with artists from around the world. You can attend exhibitions, workshops and talks. I've been to several with friends and family and felt really welcome and involved art every one, and spent a thoroughly fab time.
Check out their website for events and menus.
Get yourselves down there, you will not be disappointed, there is something for the whole community!
Have loved being in custom especially over the summer where the side doors open into their gorgeous garden. Amazing hyper local food, lavender and chocolate tart is one of my favourites and the lobster on scrambled eggs is pretty special. Brilliant arts programme and great way of meeting like minded people in the area 👍
What a gem!
I recently went for lunch here with my partner and two year old. How wonderful to find a setting with a garden that is not only beautiful but that also provides a mud kitchen and toys for my little one to play with! The food is delicious and I will return just for more kale crisps. Staff went above and beyond, letting my little one pick strawberries from the garden, and finding her a paintbrush to 'paint' the garden with (vinegar with water, to make the paint more believable!)
I'd fully recommend a visit, especially if you want somewhere that is child friendly!
