Had been wanting to try this place for ages and it didn't disappoint! The food was amazing. Had burnt ends, beef short rib with corn and panko mac n cheese. Only thing I would say is that the temperature of the food wasn't as I'd like but it took nothing away from the flavour. Also it is quite pricey. For our food (which is pictured) and 2 drinks it was about £45. Great to have a real barbecue place in Edinburgh. Staff were also friendly, overall a really nice experience.
Phenomenal hidden gem for meat lovers in Edinburgh.
First time visiting and definitely not the last! We had the Pork Candy, melts in the mouth and sweet enough with smoky tones, next we tried the garlic bread with shredded pork shoulder, tender and mild in flavour, was awesome and finally the main dish which included, smoked baby ribs, pulled pork, potato salad and a salad with rocket and green apple. Just this last dish was the absolute highlight! Baby ribs were perfectly seasoned, smoked and full of flavour, pulled pork with an incredible glaze, the potato salad had mustard seeds and dill as well as the rocket salad with apple was a nice fresh addition to this meal. Thank you to Angelo, Lauren, the super funky owner and the rest of the team for an awesome meal and hospitality!!
This place is absolutely fantastic.
First of all, nice chilled out atmosphere and very kind owner and staff. That was already a positive first impression when I arrived to collect my food.
As for the food itself, I am a first time customer and it was well worth visiting The Simddy.
Brisket was 100% perfectly cooked, babyback ribs were lovely (especially with cherry sauce), burnt ends were absolutely superb (a big thank you for adding them and the macaroni as a free extra), sausage, macaroni and all the extras were excellent too.
Fantastic flavours and just the right amount of spicyness without being over the top.
Portions are generous as well.
Me and my family really enjoyed the food. There wasn't a single thing that we didn't like, everything tasted superb and it was great to try out freshly made Texan BBQ for the first time.
I'd say it's easily the best BBQ place in Edinburgh and even though personally I've never been to Texas, I would imagine this is exactly the kind of food you'd be served at a good BBQ restaurant in Houston or Fort Worth as an example.
The Smiddy is certainly a great place to visit if you want an excellent BBQ meal and if you fancy eating something different from the usual things in this area.
I'll definitely be back again for a nice meal and would recommend The Smiddy to others.
