Fantastic little hidden gem. The food is excellent and really reasonably priced for the centre of town. I love a wee Friday treat in here. A must visit!
I thought the fare on offer at the Café on the Corner was first class. It’s one of those places that you want to keep for yourself and not allow others to find out about, but it deserves a wide and appreciative audience
A social enterprise supporting adults on the autistic spectrum, the Cafe on the Corner, on Hill Street, has been on our list to visit, since it was featured on Edinburgh Spotlight, shortly after it opened.
My visit today came after a meeting I had scheduled in Glasgow was postponed, leaving me roaming the streets of Edinburgh, desperately wondering why I wasn’t asleep on a train.
To waken me from this walking slumber, the bright and relaxing confines of this hidden gem provided a very pleasant solution.
Their menu offers breakfast, lunch, snack and cake options. I liked the sound of their scrambled egg and smoked salmon bagel, so ordered one of them. An espresso sounded like a good idea, and I was pleased to hear they were serving Artisan Roast primavera.
As I sipped my excellent coffee, I heard promising noises from the kitchen, as they went about freshly preparing my breakfast.
When it arrived, it looked smart and plentiful. The scrambled egg was beautifully seasoned, and when combined with the salmon and the lovely buttery bagel, it made for richly pleasing forkfuls.
With the whiff of Festival fervour in the air, it struck me that this place will be an ideal little oasis of calm from the excesses of August in Edinburgh. It’s a very handy hideaway from both the Assembly Rooms and the Book Festival, so I think it will do cracking business.
So overall, I thought the fare on offer at the Café on the Corner was first class. It’s one of those places that you want to keep for yourself and not allow others to find out about, but it deserves a wide and appreciative audience. I’d urge you to pay it a visit at your earliest opportunity.
