My partner and I regularly visit Edinburgh. When in the Capital Saiko Kitchen is a staple of our diet. Between the two of us we have tried almost everything on the menu and love it all. I know of no other place in Scotland which offers authentic Vietnamese Bánh mì (something we have craved since visiting Vietnam). Iced coffee's here are also out of this world! Starbucks who???
Can't rate this place high enough!
Recently Saiko kitchen has started to open later. Usually I'm not in the area for lunch, but on the way home after work, I decided to hop in for a bite.
Instantly this feels like a cafe open for dinner. Lack of menu's means reading the menu off the wall, but partially covered by the lamps, it was frustrating to see what was available. We did however have a quick look before a few weeks before and the one item I was excited to try was sold out from a busy lunch. I'm all for restaurants not wasting food, but still a little upset it wasn't available.
What we did order however was pretty good, dim sum and a fresh roll, tasted superb, these guys really do their food good, but it's obvious this is really a lunch location. Lack of bar alcohol limited their drink selection and with no real dinner options, it was just a bit of a disappointment for dinner.
In saying that, I'll head back here for lunch one day soon, but I'll skip dinner until they maybe change the menu.
Good value for tasty food. Could use more greens and thin sliced meat for a more authentic experience. Fish cakes a bit chewy but good. Very good service.
