I went to Turquoise Thistle on Saturday for an afternoon tea as they went launching a new menu. We were warmly welcomed by a member of staff and seated in the big room on the right. The atmospehere was very welcoming and staff very friendly. We started our afternoon tea with a glass of prosecco. The food was delicious. We were offered a great selection of savouries from which I especially enjoyed the vol-au-vent of free range egg and baby cress and smoked salmon on tattie scone. I was quite full after eating the savouries but managed to squeeze in a fruit filo tartlet and a lemon drizzle cake. They were both excellent. Overall the afternoon tea at The Turquoise Thistle was a great change from a traditional afternoon tea menu. One could see that the chef has been very creative. So well done Turquoise Thistle. I'll be back!
I didn't even know this place existed until I was invited here for Afternoon Tea 'with a twist' one rainy, wet and horrible Saturday. Turquoise Thistle is a lovely lovely place, it felt especially homely when walking in from the horrible day outside. The staff were friendly and I received a warm welcome. The room we were shown to was lovely and spacious and we had the room to ourselves. I especially love the colour turquoise so loved how the place was decorated. The afternoon tea 'with a twist' was basically to do something different and offer a selection other than sandwiches. The savoury selection was brilliant - my favourite was the salmon on the potato scone, the sizes of the portions were also good. The sweet selection was good, but after speaking with a lot of the other attendees we all thought that there should have been more savory and less sweets on offer. I enjoyed the sweet selection and to be honest the scone with cream and jam was actually my favourite, they were all lovely but I prefer savoury items but that is my personal choice. I really enjoyed the whole ambiance of TT however, and I will definitely be back for a girly day or afternoon tea with my mum.
I was delighted when I received an invitation to the launch of the afternoon tea menu at Turquoise Thistle, it'd been on my list of places to try for a long time, so it was great to finally find a time to go.
The setting is fantastic, the dining room with large windows on to York Place offer plenty of natural light even though it was slightly dreich the day we were there.
The savouries impressed, the scones were great but the sweets could have been better.
