I DISCOVERED EAST Pizzas on Instagram a few months ago and was instantly tempted by their tantalising pizza snaps. Having opened in The Shore area of Leith in October 2017, their ethos of using quality, locally sourced ingredients sounded like it would be right up my alley. . The restaurant is small yet spacious with a few booths along the right-hand wall (as you enter) and a banquette at the opposite side sharing more intimate tables. Up the back, there’s a small bar area in front of a compact kitchen, where a couple of bodies beaver away amongst clouds of flour. There was a board with an impressive list of suppliers, which I hoped was a statement of intent for what was to come.
We thoroughly enjoyed our pizzas last night. First sourdough pizza we have had and it was certainly tasty with a more dense texture which we loved. My wife’s chorizo pizza was a bit oily but still had great taste. The garlic bread was also nice but some parts were a bit too burnt for my liking but the majority of it was delicious. We also ordered a garlic dip and a truffle dip. Both were not bad but nothing special. £2 for a small tub of sauce is also a little expensive. Good selection of pizzas on the menu but nothing overly vast. Overall we finished our pizzas feeling full and satisfied but not horrible and greasy which you often feel after having pizza. I’d recommend this place.
A wonderful addition to Edinburghs food scene. This place has a small cosy seating area along with take away for absolutely fantastic pizzas. Using local fresh ingredients, they make a selection of delicious and gourmet pizzas. The host is an extremely charismatic and friendly French guy who makes the atmosphere light hearted and welcoming.
