The Birchwood is a nice homely restaurant at the top of Marchmont Road (at street level) and serves excellent breakfasts. Even if you are not into haggis (there is a vegetarian option) or black pudding (sourced from Stornoway, and reckoned to be the best) the breakfast options are excellent. Top class coffee too. Seating is suitable and flexible for different sizes of (small) groups, The decor broadly follows the former Toast (at the same location) with local quality artwork. Members of staff are attentive, helpful and accommodating.
Very pretty, cozy and pleasant place, with a friendly service. We had an excellent breakfast, French toast and banana bread were delicious. Away from the touristy area, very relaxing, didn’t want to leave. Strongly recommend
