I have reviewed before which was 5/5 but here is a fresh new Review from my visit for the 14/07/2021!
I messaged Gilbert's in advance to see if they still did my favourite meal there - Brie and Red Onion Chutney Toastie! Even though it wasn't on their main menu anymore it was on their Takeaway Menu and they said it would be no problem at all to have it when I visit them. I was able to book through Facebook Messenger with them, including stating we needed 3 highchairs if they were available, their responses were very quick and they even said we can sit under one of their Gazebos which I didn't realise they had! It's great especially with us taking 3 little ones as then they are not in the sun but can still enjoy the breeze and sunshine - safely!
I ordered the toastie I wanted (I asked for no salad and extra chutney) we got asked which flavoured crisps we wanted as well which was nice and also if we wanted it on White or Brown Bread.
For the kids we ordered the Children's Platter, for the price (under £6) I just assumed it would all be on a plate but no ...it was like a Children's Afternoon Tea!!! Different layers and everything it was just adorable and it made the experience really enjoyable, I sent photos to my family and they were really pleased and noted how nice to was for the kids to enjoy their own afternoon tea. Not only that but because it is different layers it gives the kids some independence as well to choose what they want to eat etc. For the money I thought you got quite a lot as well and all the kids really enjoyed it.
Even though we were outside we felt very safe when we visited the toilet inside the cafe, it was extremely clean and I really liked how it said use the tissue to open the door etc and to turn the tap on, I love that it was "Extra" on all the health aspects, I am always one to wear lots of hand gel so I thought this was really great and it was spotless.
We as adults didn't have desserts this time round but the toastie, latte and my friends sandwich was absolutely beautiful. We will 100% be coming back here again. The cook also spoke to us on the way out and asked us about our meal etc which was a very nice touch as well as it makes your visit feel personal to the cafe which I really liked.
5/5 could not fault it one bit!
Photos: Brie and Red Onion Chutney Toastie and Children's Platter! (Cheese Sandwiches on the bottom - you had a choice of filling and also what type of bread you wanted - crisps, carrot, tomato, cucumber. The top layer was Caramel Shortbread Cake, melon and Orange!
Lovely little cafe with a well maintained rear garden. Plenty of seating and good food and coffee. Owners and staff were very friendly. Garlic bread was to die for.
Daughter treated me to afternoon tea and it has to be one of the best I've ever had, wonderful staff, and every bit of food bursting with flavour, will definitely be visiting again 👍😁 and because it was a mother's day treat I was given a really cute complimentary biscuit ❤
