A very cheap but good quality family run local business which I’m proud to support.
Just visited during my break for a quick special fried rice and was shocked it only cost £3.20 for a large one! To my surprise it was really good, full of meat and very tasty. I will definitely visit again, thank you! UPDATE I popped in again and tried the King prawns with mushrooms only £4.20 and fantastic really tasty prawns, wish this place was close to where I live!
I've only ever been to Ying Wah for lunch and it's always been pretty good. For £3.80 they have an impressive lunch menu with an entrée and either noodles or rice. Beef and mushrooms with noodles is my usual. The portions are really generous and unlike a lot of other takeaways, they don't skimp on the beef and round it out with a ton of mushrooms.
Today I also ordered prawn crackers (they aren't given for free) for an extra £1.20. I won't get them again—it tasted like they aren't ordered very often and had been there for a while. I bought my Diet Coke from the newsagent next door.
I've never been able to reach the restaurant by phone to order lunch because nobody ever answers, so I have to walk there. This isn’t a big deal for me since they're super close and cook everything in about 7-minutes, but I have also gone around during their lunch hours (12-2pm) and found it closed. It's a small family operation and I assume with only a husband/wife team running the show, if one is sick or they need to do something else during business hours, the restaurant stays shuttered for the day. I know this all sounds bad, but honestly, for the price, portions, and overall quality of the lunch special it's worth popping in every now and again.
