Best Pie ‘n’ Mash in London. Traditional feel and the food’s pukka. Double Double with a side of eels and a mug of Rosie Lee goes down a treat and it’s very friendly on your pocket! Well recommended.
What is not to love about a plate of pie, mash and liquor with a cuppa for less than a fiver?! Pie was really good and I’d say it’s probably the best liquor in South London. Love the decor with all the Cockney rhyming slang. And Max the owner is super welcoming. Can’t believe it’s taken me so long to trying his pies, but now I have, I’ll make an effort to keep going back.
Pie and Mash is a Cockney comfort food found in East London.
It is served with a green coloured parsley sauce known as liquor.
As well as pie and mash, you will also find jellied eels on the menu.
Most Pie and Mash shops are in East London so it was a surprise to discover Cockney's of Croydon in Croydon serving it all with jellied eels as well.
Inside, I loved the style of this place with church benches, Flags and their own re-labelled Jack Daniel whisky bottles which contain vinegar.
Without further ado, I ordered the pie and mash with a mug of tea.
They were really nice to give me a side of jelly without eels to try.
The pie was crispy with minced beef in the middle complimented nicely by the liquor.
Adding vinegar to it made it moreish.
The eel jelly was as good as expected and again vinegar made it delicious.
Finished with a satisfying mug of hot tea.
Previously tried F.Cooke in East London which is the oldest, but sadly I haven't posted anything yet so hopefully I will get the time later.
