My first time at the Pound- what an intimate venue- perfect space to appreciate Nick Harper (and support Patrick Duff) who we saw last night. It was the last night of Nick's Tempus Fugitive tour - what he does things with his complex layers of guitar and voice and where he takes you, through different time portals and different music is hard to express in a short review; but, I returned eventually to the Pound from a magic carpet ride through the swirls of time from a Marrakesh hookah bar, the belltower of a French chateau in the 1950s and other liminal places. There is much humour, virtuosity and poetry of the best kind as he grapples with experience, and lassoes time as it flies- and moments of transcendance as something timeless is forged from the pounding of the chords and the wild, wide-ranging voice.
Great venue - and variety of performances - with a community feel.
Another great evening at a superb venue. I wish that more rural towns could have such a wonderful resource such as this.
