(Review for the Sunday roast!) - date of visit: August 2023.
We had to book in advanced for the recommended Sunday roast.
The hotel itself is impeccably decorated and well-kept.
Staff front of house and those who served us were all very friendly, helpful and welcoming.
We were given a choice of seating options and once we sat down, immediately you can tell the hotel is of high quality.
It was empty and we spoke with a couple who were very interested in our food options.
We all opted for Sunday roast.
No messing around, everything from our drink orders to food; all timed perfectly. Starters, mains and desserts.
All food is of the highest quality and made with fresh ingredients.
Look at the size of the Yorkshire puddings!
We were all very full; especially when our arm was twisted for dessert!
Happy to pay service charge and well worth the cost.
Please visit, you won’t be disappointed!
I never actually stayed in a room. But, I attended the restaurant three evenings in a row. All I can say is you would not be disappointed unless you're in a coma. Fantastic welcoming, and attentive, staff. Made me a drink that was not on the menu, and remembered my drinks order on the following visits. Food was delicious, and presently wonderfully. I recommend the pan fried sea bass main dish. But, I also recommend anything on the menu. Very versatile chef who allowed me to change certain aspects, just to my mere taste preferences. I really cannot rate the place higher than I am already doing so. The only true quality place to eat in Cockermouth, and I'm sure far beyond the area too. Top marks, for a top establishment. I do wish I could eat there every day. Excellent, to say the very least.
Lovely hotel. Bing Crosby, a true Hollywood star of old, stayed here when he was 'gone fishin' on the river Derwent.
Nice food, good atmosphere, pleasant staff.
