Stovells - Chobham - Surrey
It's a hidden gem this place with its South American influenced French themed menu.
Home made Stovells gin is the order of the day made by my ex college mate now award winning Chef Fernando, and boy has he come far. He'll be on Saturday Kitchen this week with Chef James Martin, probably talking about the Mexican and Argentinian punch he puts into his food. The settings rather cottagey, but that's Chobham for you a real quant village tucked somewhere in deep Surrey. The entrance was welcomed by a warm open fire of dried kiln wood and a cocktail or two... Low ceilings but the beams make you feel like you could have walked into a very lush pub! Probably was a pub at some point?!
Amuse Bouche was a nice surprise, and the wood fired baked bread was delicious...smoked butter to go with it.
Grilled mackerel, terrine, braised brisket, cod, petit pois alsacienne and a lashing of chard all washed down with a fine Spanish white made it a very Mediterranean afternoon with much flavour and a lovely setting too.
The restaurant was full and the chairs were really comfy, we enjoyed it immensely. My chocolate pud was perfectly plated and I loved the malted milk ice cream that came with it... The cheese selection was incredibly well thought of and well presented with its own little card!
10/10 well done Chef Fernando, pleased to see how great your restaurant is doing :-) and thank you for your generosity
Excellent lunch at Stovell's today! Delicious food cooked beautifully and slightly different from the norm - all served in a fabulous setting. Courteous, friendly and very knowledgeable staff. Would definitely recommend. Have no hesitation in giving 5 stars!
Lovely service and friendly staff. They brought extra special desserts for our anniversary celebration. Tasting menu was delicious; every course is exciting apart from the cauliflower wasn't very special. Definitely will come back again to try the ham!
