Lovely old pub, down a single track, dead end road, in the middle of nowhere! I first came here in 1978.
Fascinating history, displayed around the inside.
Basic but good pub food. Nice selection of beers and friendly staff. Plenty of seating inside and out. The original single bar room is now a lower dining area. The main pub area now, being part of the original house.
3 of us called into the Royal Oak on the way back from Goodwood Revival after finding this pub on Google Maps. My brother and I had steak that was nice and tender. My sister in law had the mushroom pie which she said was delicious. We chatted with a couple of locals who had a lovely little puppy. The landlord and staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Will definitely be back as it’s a great walking area.
We only stopped off for a drink whilst out walking along the South Downs Way. It isn't far off the route and as it was a lovely autumn day it was nice to sit outside in the pretty garden. The landlord made us feel very welcome and the pint of Guiness was a good one. We didn't try the food on this occasion, but it looked good. So, maybe next time.
