Had a great lunch here, warm welcome and excellent service. Friday is famous for it’s fish and chips, but when we saw the generosity of the portions we opted for pastrami sandwiches and they were delicious. Washed down with a pint of Fuller’s.
I was looking for a place to have a meal and drinks with friends when I saw this pub at the end of a side road.
Freshly decorated, it stood out and a quick peek through the window confirmed a great selection of beers, whilst the menu posted on the wall had some interesting choices, not the usual repetitive bought in pub food.
Three women walking by as I was looking said that it was the best pub in Chichester.
They were not wrong, it's simply one of the best pubs I've been in lately and not just in Chichester.
The food was truly fabulous; I had the whitebait, home made kedgeree, and home made ice cream, all truly delicious.
The ale selection included Fuller's, Gales HSB & Dark Star and the staff were delightful & helpful.
I'd give this place 6 stars if it were possible, it was fantastic; simply the gold standard of how to exit a pandemic at the top of your game.
Update - Yes, it is really still that good!
I'm so glad we stumbled on this pub as we were exploring Chichester. It has a lovely, homely and slightly quirky atmosphere for example, googly eyes on one pair of antlers on the wall.
Service was good (the pub was half full when we visited. The man behind the bar took our order quickly and was friendly and helpful. The food took about half an hour to arrive but remember this is proper food being cooked to order.
The menu is interesting and varied; definitely not your usual something-and-chips pub fare. Two of our party had cod loin with crab crushed potatoes and samphire with lobster sauce and the third had belly of pork with bacon mash and cabbage. It was all very delicious. If I was to be very picky, and I mean really, really picky, I thought the cod was slightly overcooked and the potatoes slightly over-peppered but you could really taste the crab and the whole meal came together well.
There was an excellent selection of well-kept beers as well.
If we were local this could quickly become a regular eating venue. If only we had pubs like this in Coventry.
