My favourite eatery in Chester. Always visit whenever I'm in town. Tried nearly every sandwich on the menu and I love them all. Magda and Marco are amazing hosts, first time I went to Gustum I was welcomed like I'd know them for years. Now it truly feels like I do.
Visiting Gustum is not just popping in for a bite to eat, it's catching up with friends. Seriously if their combination of amazing food and friendliness does not have you coming back, you have no soul.
It's in a great location. If you stand outside and look over the walls onto the canal, you can see the Roman foundations, discernible by the different style of stone work.
Inside, they do an unusual range of gourmet sandwiches with Latin names. I tried two kinds. They were both excellent and not combinations I would have put together myself. Nice coffee, too. In the high season, I imagine it might get crowded but it was very quiet when we went and we got chatting with the friendly woman who was working here. You can't ask for more from a caff.
We order our office lunch from Gustum for the first time yesterday. Everyone was so impressed with the quality and size of the lunches. The 'Gustum' Ciabatta was my choice and out of this world. We will certainly be back to order from one of Chesters Hidden Gems...
