This is the poshest Spoons on record according to Tim. It is an amazing structure with some fascinating history but it's not one of my favourites. I have never seen such a busy Wetherspoons. People were waiting patiently for tables to become available. It was madness really. We went at lunchtime & it was loud & extremely busy. It started to ease off around 2pm. The bar area is on the first floor, along with the toilets which were spotless & pong free. Number 51 for us.
The restaurant's interior exudes old-world charm, with roman coloums and vintage decor that transports diners to a bygone era. Each corner of the restaurant tells a story, inviting patrons to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of the building's past.
But while the ambiance may be steeped in history, the menu at this weatherspoons is decidedly modern and affordable. Offering a diverse selection of dishes inspired by both traditional and contemporary cuisine, there is something to satisfy every palate.
Had to review my review again as I feel something has changed for the better. The quality of the food that's coming out of the kitchen has improved. The plates are not as cold as previously stated in my last review of the place. Staff are and have always been friendly and helpful and the only thing I can say is I do miss when someone used to come to my table and ask if everything was okay with the meal. The removal of this personal touch has probably been made from way up above but it was nice and at times important. Overall I think the establishment is working constantly to improve their standards and that deserves a few more stars.
