Back in the very early 1970s, I used to live in nearby Palace Road. We called the area The Golden Square, simply because we had The Red Lion, The Anglesea Arms, The Freelands Tavern, The Crown and Anchor and The White Horse...all within a 5 minute walk of each other.
It was a truly wonderful time to live in what was basically a village within a town. A Friday night could be spent visiting all 5 pubs and you knew that each would offer something unique to your evening.
It's been many years since I left the area, but I returned to The White Horse on Friday evening and it was as if I'd stepped back to those far distant days.
Great beers and ales, friendly and welcoming staff... and even the locals no longer bite!!!
Highly recommended.
Love this pub, landlord and staff so inviting, fab atmosphere never have a bad night in here
Friendly locals pub. It’s great in the winter with their big open fire. Staff are welcoming, chatty and friendly. Some more interesting beers would be great though. Nicely tucked away down some backstreets with other pubs nearby to crawl to.
