Walking past at 5.30pm, on a random midweek evening, realised that it might be the only Indian takeaway place within a ten minute walk that I've never been a customer of. Spur of the moment, impulse decision, decided to change that.
Extensive menu in the window, and inside is a counter behind which is a nice looking open kitchen, all solid commercial burners, ovens and warming cabinets.
I ordered a Chicken Dhansak (rice included), Sag Paneer and Onion bajhee, total cost was £18.80, which for a takeaway/delivery joint was a couple of quid more than I expected. The rice came out of a hot cabinet, normal practice on a Friday night i imagine but since I was probably the days first punter, I don't know when it went in there or how long it had been in there.
Curry was really tasty, hot, thick dhansak sauce, just how I like it, enjoyed it immensely. The two sides were a bit disappointing, sadly.
The (boss) chef obviously knows his stuff and without doubt carries the business. Although I felt something was lacking, that curry was good enough for me to try again, maybe a later time on a different day next time.
I've had better, I've had worse, but l'm convinced that I should be back another day.
Delicious food! So fresh and flavoursome. Especially love the Saag aloo, it’s not oily like you find in other places. Paneer tikka masala is great too, so creamy. Feel terrible - we forgot to tip the delivery driver! Will tip extra next time :)
We absolutely love Red Chillies, ever since our daughter introduced us to them last year, we have never been disappointed. We are always made to feel very welcome & the open kitchen is always spotlessly clean, even when it’s busy, they’re constantly wiping the sides down. They use a tandoori oven to make my favourite dish, chicken shashlik but we also love the wide range of veggie sides they do. I can’t wait to try their new branch in Woudingdean, Green Chillies.
