My partner and I came here for lunch, as we were really in the mood for some Caribbean food. This place is an absolute gem. Service was quick, even though all the tables had punters, and both drinks and food came quickly.
I had the vegetarian “Rasta plate”, while my partner opted for fried chicken, and we had the fried plantains, which were done in the same batter and style as the chicken. All the food was absolutely fantastic, and a special mention has to go the mustardy house hot sauce; I think I had about a quarter of the bottle! What I love about this type of food is that it’s not pretentious or clever, it’s just simple, delicious food that makes you feel happy. It’s pure comfort food.
We loved it so much that we came back in the evening with friends for dinner! We both had the same dishes again, with the addition of a side order of macaroni pie, as well as sharing a piece of delicious rum cake for dessert.
We visit Brighton every couple of months and have already decided that we’ll have to return to Bus Stop next time we’re in town.
The Bus Stop was a fantastic find just outside the lanes. I had probably the best fried chicken in my life. Not overly battered and yet still crispy. And wow the hot sauce they have is amazing. Just the right amount of heat and flavour. I also chose the Mac and Cheese bake which was soo good! My husband had a wrap and we both enjoyed lovely drinks off their fun tropical cocktail menu. Can't wait to go back and try more things off both the food and drinks menu.
There was live music when we arrived in the form of a steel drummer. The service was very friendly and attentive. The food was great. I especially loved the Pholourie with mango chutney. There isnt any street parking if you're driving, but there is a car park not too far from the restaurant if you look for parking on Google. We came all the way from Croydon for this experience, and we were not disappointed. Amazing little place!
