First time visitors to Bournemouth, we were spoiled for choices with dinning options, but Crab at Bournemouth caught our attention. Located just minutes walk from the beach and outstanding reviews, it seemed like the perfect fit for our love of seafood. We were not disappointed.
Upon entering, the staff graciously offered to take our coats. We were the first customers of the evening, and the restaurant exuded a welcoming, clean ambiance. The server, who may be the manager, was exceptionally polite thru out the night. To our surprise, we were promptly treated a small portion of fish soup of the day for tasting not long after we were seated, it was very nice.
Our order included the fish soup (of course), seafood linguine, hake risotto, the whole crab with garlic butter, and a beam fillet with black spaghetti (a special of the day). Each dish was outstanding, but the standout was undoubtedly the crab paste. Served with fries for dipping, it was a taste sensation that left us wanting more!
We left with satisfied stomachs and a sense of contentment. It was truly a memorable evening.
We had our dinner at Crab last night.
The made our reservation online two days prior to avoid disappointment as the reviews online are very positive. We were greeted by trained and friendly staffs when we arrived and our table is all setup for us.
We ordered their specials menu which was fish soup and 1/2 lobster and hake on risotto from their normal menu. The taste of food is very nice, risotto is perfect. The fish soup is so so as I would expect there have some fish meat in the soup but no, just two-three croutons in fish and tomato soup. The taste is good but nothing outstanding. Now come to our another main, the lobster. I can say their lobster is not fresh as I can tell from the texture of the lobster meat. It is mushy, not chewy. I feed this back to the waiter and he said “i will let the manager knows” then he didn’t return to us anymore. I feel quite lucky I didn’t order their seafood platter (£115) as m their seafood is not fresh from the day. I think the manager need to review this as Crab is a seafood restaurant and freshness is the most important thing for seafood.
I think I spent the money on their service more on their food. Overall, i think this restaurant is slightly overpriced based on the quality of food.
It's a restaurant with sea food. My husband isn't into sea food much, so he came along just for me, but there weren't options to choose from for him. He ordered the sea food linguine, but he said the pasta was a little overcooked.
I have ordered only starters:
Oysters - min oder is 6. Would have liked it to be 3 as a fixed starter or order by piece. I like oysters, but it was a little too mu h because I wanted to have a variety of sea food. They were good.
Octopus 🐙 salad - this was interesting. It was warm and with potatoes.
Scallops - served on a cauliflower. At first, I thought they were served on couscous but it was indeed cauliflower, which was interesting. I liked it.
We were there at 6 pm, still at daylight, so it's hard to say anything about the atmosphere. Also I don't think the restaurant is aiming for it.
Their sharing seafood platter seemed to be popular. I couldn't order that because my husband didn't want it. If you choose to go there , make sure that everyone loves seafood.
