Pranzo is a well decked out restaurant. Great for families and for large gatherings. As for the food, it's good. The pizza is a bit too runny but worth getting if that's your type. The biryani was average. Pranzo specialise in a multitude of cuisines where the problem ultimately lies. Still we are sure there must be some great items on the menu we haven't explored.
All round 5 stars for impeccable service and a really enjoyable dining experience. Ordered the the Shahi Mixed grill as a starter, which included 4 lamb chops nicely cooked with 4 kebabs and around 5 large chicken Tikka pieces. This was enough for 5 adults - all the meat was perfectly grilled and tender.
As we had children with us we also ordered the Queen Margherita pizza and Linguine Ala Ragu (spaghetti bolognaise). The pizza was really nice with fresh basil, cherry tomatoes and what seemed like bechamelle sauce under the mozzarella. Pasta was perfectly al dente with a rich bolognaise sauce and served with a crisp salad (kids didn't eat) which we ended up eating with the mixed grill. Both pizza and pasta were a good size to share between 3 children who quietly finished the lot happily. And that's saying something.
To follow we had the Murgh (Chicken) and Lamb Karahi in addition to a Keema Matar (lamb mince and peas) curry. We ordered 2 family naans which were surprisingly big and as such, had to cancel the Chapattis we had ordered previously but were glad that we did as these large buttery naans were a perfect accompaniment to the currys, with some left-over afterwards. The 3 currys were a perfect size to share and brimming with meat (unlike other places swimming in sauce). The lamb was soft and succulent with just the right amount of spice and the chicken the same. The Keema Matar was traditionally on-point and was the only curry that was left unfinished; not due to taste but rather its large portion size.
Nice choice of desserts. We ordered Chocolate Fudge cake with Ice Cream, Apple tart with custard and Ferrero Roche Ice Cream for the kids.
The Cake was far from average with a dense and dark chocolate taste and very smooth texture. The tart was tangy and pastry crisp and just perfect with the custard. Small attention to detail went a long way here.
All lovely and finished the meal off nicely.
Overall. very happy with the food; and the service was on tap with waitress making sure we had everything, which with children means a lot more is going on than usual - but the staff were very accommodating. The ambiance is relaxed and the building has a very open airy design combining modern and contemporary with a premium feel to it, with decent washrooms and excellent service it's like being in a 5 star hotel.
I will certainly be back soon to try more from the menu and can recommend it as a 'go to' place in Birmingham for its quality of food and service within a premio' style venue.
Decided to try Pranzo on a whim. Needed somewhere to open our fasts. Was not disappointed. The food was well seasoned. Packed flavour. Maybe it was not eating for 18 hours but we could not finish.
