Staying on Holy Island this week for my significant birthday we decided to get up early to catch the tide for the causeway crossing and have breakfast at the Well House after reading favourable reviews. Unfortunately we arrived an hour too early and killed time in the Northumbrian dreek, loitering in the Co-op and peering in shop windows until the cafe opened. We were not disappointed. A warm welcome, a breakfast each, toast and copious amount of coffee at a very reasonable price. A place to remember we decided....
Afterwards we drove to Chilingham and then on to Bamburgh sands. Of course after a few miles walking we'd worked up an appetite but where to go for a bite to eat? After consideration it was agreed that the Well House was the best option, particularly after spying the lemon meringue pie earlier - and so our second visit of the day was made for tuna melt, quiche lorraine, lemon meringue pie and a pot of tea.
Put it on your list for when you're passing you will not be disappointed.
