The Gold Medal is an Ashton institution and has been serving fish & chips to hungry Tameside residents for over 30 years and it's good to see it still going strong.
A trip to see my Grandparents in Dukinfield wasn't complete without a trip here for meat & potato pie, mushy peas, chips & gravy (we lived in the South so this was like manna from heaven). That was in the late 70s/early 80s.
Times have moved on and Gold Medal still offers a number of delicious options at a reasonable price. As well as the meal mentioned above I am sucker for a well vinegared battered fish muffin and the rag pudding is also a must if you haven't tried it.
Some would argue that it's a little cocky to call yourself 'Gold Medal'. But when you've tried the chips in here, you'll realise that they absolutely deserve it!
Long known as the best chippy in Ashton town centre, Gold Medal is absolutely packed on a Saturday lunchtime! In fact, people often queue down the whole length of the shop to get their hands on beautiful battered fish, Holland's pies, jumbo sausages and chunky chips. But the waiting is always worth it.
If you want to eat in, you'll find lots of tables and chairs at Gold Medal. Just get in early! As I've already mentioned, this place is usually packed!
Not a lot of people in when I was there as it wasn't far off closing time but the food was excellent as always
