stayed 2 nights at short notice after bad weather closed the campsite I was staying on...
fantastic hotel in excellent location with walks from the front door.
dogs and owners warmly welcomed! I stayed in a single room and was so impressed with it's size.the view from the window was amazing and the breakfast.. ...oh my goodness..fabulous.
the only drawback for me was only channel 4 and itv2 could be received on the tv..so an evening relaxing watching tv after a long walk wasn't great.there is mention in the hotel info on the difficulty they were having in getting more tv channels...and this was also said at the desk when I mentioned it..but this seemed strange as there are a number of properties in the valley around the hotel...and I'm sure they ve solved the difficulty?
other than this...fantastic hotel.thankyou.
Thoroughly enjoyed my wee stay at Skelwith Bridge Hotel. I needed a short getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life and my stay here was worth the trip. The room was super cosy upon arrival and I was able to check in early despite being half an hour early which was so nice and welcoming. The location is excellent for walks and close to Ambleside. The breakfasts were a great start to my day. The hotel lobby has a very helpful cabinet full of leaflets and walking guides which I found super helpful. Plenty of parking at the hotel with front and rear car parks. I also appreciated having actual room keys, as I find the electronic room card keys you often get a real pain as they can be easily deactivated when stored closely to electronic devices. I noticed a lot of reviews mention the lack of signal reception, but for me personally, this was not a problem as I do not watch television when I'm on a walking holiday. (I actually stored the room's television in the wardrobe during my stay.) The view from my room was stunning, and I could clearly see the sunrise and sunset. In addition the hotel's wifi is excellent so you are able to make calls via Whatsapp and not use up your data. Would highly recommend this hotel, particularly as a solo traveller I felt that all my needs were met. If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful place to stay in the Lake District then this would be the place.
Only stopped for drinks on this occasion, but well worth a visit. Friendly, welcoming staff and enjoyed watching the fell pony opposite!
