Quintessential, well used, English village pub in the heart of beautiful Abthorpe.
My wife and I were staying locally for a couple of nights and booked ourselves in for evening meals.,
The warmth of welcome by Linda, the staff and the regulars was lovely, especially towards our woofer, Millie. The choice of Hook Norton Ales were right up my street and the wine selection superb.
What we weren't expecting was the choice and quality of the food served. Absolutely outstanding, the portions are large but that didn't detract from the flavour and freshness of the ingredients used.
Worth noting that weekly trips are made to Billingsgate market (orders taken for the local community), so varied seafood features on the menu.
First night we shared an asparagus starter followed by Short Rib of Beef and my wife had the Billingsgate Mussels Mariniere, followed by gorgeous homemade Tiramisu.
Second night. Scallop starter, Chicken Ham & Leek Pie and my wife enjoyed the mussels so much the first time around that she had them again. Very, very happy.
No wonder this pub won the award for Midlands in 2019.
We look forward so much to visiting again.
Fantastic pub with great food and fabulous service. Always busy which is good to see and never failed to make room for us. Thank you
Great little pub. Some of the most friendliest staff you will ever meet. Top notch service felt like part of the community after just 1 night.
Food was amazing to.
