Once again an absolutely brilliant Whisky Festival.
The tasters were beautiful. The stories behind the drinks were amazing.
Whisky, Whiskey, Rum and Gin....what more could I ask.
Can't remember anything else about Edinburgh though. Apparently had a lovely meal after the Festival then woke up on the train in Newcastle.
Can't wait for York.
Well done again The Whisky Lounge Team.
My partner and I have been attending these festivals for a few years now and we've never been disappointed. They are well-organised, highly entertaining, and lots of fun. They are fantastic events for those who would like to spend a whole afternoon or evening in the company of like-minded whisky-lovers and would like to taste whiskies that they would otherwise never see or notice. The exhibitors are always keen to please and make sure that no one leaves their stands without sampling at least two or three rare whiskies. We are looking forward to taking part in the next event be that in Bristol, Edinburgh, London, Nottingham or Manchester :).
Went to the York whisky festival at the racecourse on the 27/11.
Great event, lots of beautiful drinks to sample and really knowledgeable people to talk to about their distilleries and process.
Great that you could also buy your favourite ones there to have them delivered rather than have to carry them home.
Organised a private tasting event with The Whisky Lounge. Eddie picked a great selection of whiskeys to suit both the experienced whiskey drinkers in the group and the novices. Martin from the Manchester Whiskey Club did the tasting and gave us a good understanding of each Whisky and created a fun and unique experience for us. Would really recommend a private event with the whisky lounge.
Very enjoyable day and price compared favourably to similar events I have attended. Booked the masterclass with Ronnie Cox, well worth the additional £10 with a particularly nice and rare bottle to finish. However I have a few comments:
- Agree with other reviewers the number of distilleries was low in comparison to other events, this did result in big groupings around each one
- Please provide a listing of drams available to use the tokens against, I don't want to keep asking, it's annoying
- Both the presenters in the masterclass and the coopering demonstration were difficult to hear, due to the nature of the venue and the general noise levels, perhaps look at separate rooms or mike them up
I have been to the Whisky Weekender the last two years and it is an exceptionally good day out! All the Whisky vendors are so knowledgeable and I guarantee you'll find something out that you didn't already know! I really enjoyed the addition of being able to exchange a token for the gin exhibitors upstairs (especially as that terrace is beautiful, especially when the weather is glorious as it was). I would say that the vendors on the main gin table (not distillery specific) were noticeably less knowledgeable than anyone downstairs. I went on the Sunday for context and it is possible it was just my experience. All in all it's exceptional event
My friends and I had a great time at the Whisky Weekender this year. We went to the Saturday 12-4 session and were able to try so many great whiskies and lots of new ones as well! The food offerings were delicious and the vibe was just super friendly and positive. The sole reason I’m not giving it five stars is because I liked being upstairs at the venue better (I went in 2017).
We just used the virtual whisky tasting experience. Great comms from the start and delivery was seamless. Really informative, enjoyable and great selection of Whisky. The tastings were very different for each type which I really appreciated and wasn't expecting. It helped me to understand which types of Whisky I like.
I got this as a gift for 2 of us, I could be wrong but I think the pack is made for 1? Not sure if this was clear on purchase but we shared between two.
Appreciate the effort in trying to bring some of the in person experience to use virtually. One way to improve it for me would be to have more than one person talking through the Whiskys, But appreciate the limitations of virtual events.
This was the second year i have attended the whisky Weekender in London and i thoroughly enjoyed it both times. So much so infact i dragged a fair few people with me this year. I loved the inclusion of the gin bar and the whisky, as always, was amazing. However, there was definitely a larger number of distilleries last year (10th anniversary), and this year i was surprised to see less stands despite the popularity and success of both years events. Many of the brands i had most enjoyed tasting from the year before, including big names like talisker, were not in attendance. Despite this, i was still mpressed with the selection available, and being a scotch man i was not disappointed at all. The expansion of the gin festival allowed us to spend the last hour of the session drinking some exceptional gins to change up the flavours before we headed off. The fact it is included in the whisky ticket is fantastic and i genuinely recommended this experience to anyone mildly interested in spirits. You will not regret it.
Fantastic day up in Edinburgh this year (as always.) We went to the 12-4pm session and tried some fabulous whiskies. The exhibitors as always were very knowledgeable about their brands and the atmosphere in the rooms was great.
I would like to see some more new world exhibitors, I have enjoyed the Amrut and Starward exhibits at past events.
Looking forward to the next event I will attend on 29th Feb in Newcastle :-)
Best whisky festival I've been to in Edinburgh. A welcome drink instead of having to queue outside, plenty of distillers with lots of different drams and not mobbed with lots of places to chill. And managed to take advantage of the excellent Glenfiddich master class with the token included in the price. Looking forward to next year.
I can’t believe I’ve been using TWL for all these years and I’ve never left a review, so I’m adding my two cents. These guys have historically been doing great festivals, but during 2020 I used them much more for the virtual tastings, then later on to seeing Eddie have his weekly chats with industry insiders. To give you an idea of Eddie’s influence, when I was at both the Ardbeg and Spirit Of Yorkshire distillery they mentioned Eddie by name when I talked about my last whisky festival experience and everyone always has something positive to say about him.
I highly recommend the virtual tastings. I’ve gone from buying the same old variety from the supermarket/ whatever is recommended online to instead actually getting bottles I’ve fallen in love with by having a sample from the different tastings.
This was our fifth attendance and as always a fantastic day. It is never too crowded and nobody seems to over indulge.
Plenty of stands with multiple choices to ensure that we sampled and have noted the new bottles to buy over the year.
The Old Pultney Experience was excellent Gregor was knowledgeable presented in a manner that suited the timescale and audience, very glad we booked this as have not travelled to Wick yet for a visit.
As soon as the tickets are out for next year we will be booking again.
Surprise of the day was Glenfiddich IPA with an IPA on the side, what a pairing, a traditional Scottish 'Hauf n Hauf' which I continued with later in the evening
Absolutely brilliant evening ! It was our first time and not only we got to try a few classics , It was surprisingly full of novelties . The orange and black token was a really good idea and gave us the chance to enjoy a dram of a bottle that wouldn’t probably be in our drinks cabinet . The atmosphere and the eclectic mix of people of different age groups made the evening ever more pleasant . And we couldn’t fault the food stalls either , totally delicious (even gluten free choices were available ) . We can’t wait to go back next year ! Thank you for a very well organised event .
