Great venue and the staff were fab had a laugh and a joke with us even though we kept them back at the end of the night! If you get there in time for food it's delicious and they match beer/ wine to your menu choice

Just performed a play here, the place is small but has a lovely warm and intimate atmosphere. The staff looked after us really well too. Would be happy to return, either as a performer or audience.

Went to see Alfie Moore. It's a relaxed casual intimate basement. All the staff were excellent would definatly go again, and Alfie was great to.

Was advised to take a look here as had an open Mic night on the Sunday night, the downstairs area and bar was lively with a good atmosphere and then upstairs an area set up for people to watch some local performances, really enjoyed this aspect. Was open late too which was great to carry on the night.

Fun, Small little venue. Only 3 rows of chairs deep for comedy gigs, with extra seating round the sides. Very wide area which Rhys James found a bit off-putting I think but managed to make plenty of jokes about the venue! Really enjoyed our night, great upcoming comedian, just get here early if its sold out as some views will be blocked by pillars if you have to sit round the sides or back corners

I go to see the one and only Velma Celli and for that reason I give the four stars( I would give Velma 5 starts in hisown right) but as for the venue... It's not bad but the drinks in there are way over priced to spend a whole evening in there.

I have never been here before but what lovely venue for live performances. Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff, I will happily go again to see another of my favourite artists.

Good venue and the bar wasn't too expensive however has a limit of 100 people so at a gig a lot of people were out raged that they wouldn't even be let in due to it being packed

Nice small venue, you can't take drinks from upstairs down there so just beware

Great to see live music at an affordable price. Drinks are pricey and it is a little claustrophobic but would go again.

We saw stand up comedy on 24.11 which was hilarious - highly recommend for anyone wanting a fun evening in York.

I love the Basement. Different events such as pop-up shops and open mic nights happen there regularly, right in the centre of York!

Decent venue for smaller shows, some sightlines can be obscured by pillars but such is the nature of being in a basement!
