Popped our heads in here for a beer, and ended up having the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Clucking Oink supplied us with some cracking buttermilk fried chicken strips, and the rosemary, thyme and garlic chips were amazing. Exactly what we needed in our lives, without us knowing. The chap that served us, Mike, was lovely too! We come from Manchester, which is normally quite the forefront with out there restaurants, but York has absolutely smashed it out the park with this band of Merry bars & restaurants! What a good do!

Great atmosphere yesterday and today watching the football on the big screens. We have visited Spark York on several occasions since the opening. Great food! We have eaten in most of the food outlets and every one of them offers great tasting food!

We love going to toddler time run by the YNC York Nurturing Community, so welcoming and a great space for the little ones to run or crawl around in. Like the little touches of a step and mini seat in the toilet. The food at the YNC kitchen is amazing- I've had loaded fries, curry and soup which were delicious, and the sourdough toasties look amazing. Hot food is Pay As You Feel which is a great idea. Fab atmosphere all round, everyone really friendly.

I can see SPARK from my apartment windows. So of course had to check it out. I love it! It has expanded York City Centre out and its never been so lively down here! Its really bought The Red Lion alive & everyone in there is having fun! Live music, great food & drink. In this crazy world today, SPARK is a breathe of fresh air! Lets make Piccadilly 'The ART District' & enjoy the art rather than focusing on the negative ;) xx

Great place especially when the sun's out! Only negative was the toilets, really think this needs to be addressed.

Visited yesterday and absolutely loved the atmosphere. It was very relaxed and chilled, and with the big tables everyone was sat together mingling and having a great time! Living five minutes walk away, I can definitely see this place becoming a regular.

Great idea and the drinks available are not over priced like some people are saying, imported Ales or drinks along that line are always a little more if you don’t want to pay them prices for nicer drink pints of lager are available for less than £4

It's an innovative venture and makes use of a derelict space in an area that is under utilised and not very attractive. I am sure it's taken a huge amount of work and the opening atmosphere was fantastic. There will be teething problems on opening weekend but overall I think this is a welcome addition to York

Great food. The Tonkatsu ramen was delicious and pork was tender! The Katsu chicken and rice was yummy too! We had pork baos but ate it too quickly before taking a photo! A great business to have at Spark!!

The noodles are spot on, relatively thin and not in the slightest overcooked. The broth was reasonably complex and fatty, with a hint of spice in the spicy pork. But the pork slices were cold, thin, and uninspired. Id barely classify them as pork belly; braising would be a quick way of making them more appealing. The soft yolk eggs were also plain, not soaked in any kind of flavoring.

Absolutely amazing ramen, especially the tonkotsu is some of the best pork I've ever had. The staff are super friendly as well. I go here whenever I can while I'm in York, couldn't recommend it highly enough. Had some trouble finding it the first time I visited, note that it's in Spark up the stairs.

Absolutely delicious! We went for an early dinner and ordered the beef ramen, chicken gyozas, and two types of yakitori (mooli and pork belly special). Shori has its own seating inside the container (unlike a lot of the other food places at spark), which was great as it started raining. As we waited, we were offered the chance to try a new dish for free. We were given tempura broccoli with black garlic. It was amazing, so crunchy and tasty. I hope it makes it on to the menu permanently. Everything we ordered was really well cooked, and you could tell the guy running it was taking care to make everything taste and look good. It was also really reasonably priced compared to street food I've had in other cities. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Authentic, finger-licking delicious and affordable. Perfect for dinner or even a late night snack. This place is definitely comparable to a Yakitori you'll find on the streets of Tokyo (I have been to Japan and had plenty of Yakitoris in the past). Baos and Karaage are also perfect.

You wouldn't look at this place and think "geez, this is almost Michelin star level cooking". But you would be mistaken! The Beef Tartare was brilliantly presented, resembling somthing you would expect from a high end restaurant, providing unique flavours which complimented each other. The Tonkotsu Ramen was also a great addition to the menu, with a flavoursome tea-stained egg, firm noodles and a rich broth. The guys running the place were pleasant and friendly, and clearly cared about their work and passion for cooking. Definitely a must visit in York!
