I went into this pub for the first time in months as it's under new management. The pub is now exceptionally clean and welcoming. There is an array of events including live music and the range of beers (tap and hand pull) are good and are clearly well kept. The staff are full of life and welcoming and the regulars are friendly. This pub, regardless of it's old reputation, has seen vast improvement and is well worth a visit.

Friendly local pub. Good music venue that lets starting bands become something more. Will continue to recommend to those who want an honest pint in the historical city of York.. Drop in and see what you think. See you soon 🍻

Great little city centre pub which manages to remain off the beaten track. Cheap bar (£2.50/pint upwards) and nice, quick food. Some good live nights and club sessions - Catch A Fire (reggae) Sunday always a good vibe, usually second Sunday of the month. A local bail hostel means you might bump into the occasional oddball, otherwise a nice pub.

Spread Eagle seems to have local musicians playing here most nights, and of constantly changing genre, so it doesn't get boring. The drinks here are extremely reasonably priced (one may go as far as to say cheap), and offers a variety of local ales, alongside the usual lagers and spirits (served in 35ml measures, not the usual 25ml). The staff are also brilliant, and always up for a chat and a laugh. I'd highly recommend a visit if you live nearby, or are visiting the city.

This is a proper pub. This is a proper live music bar. Good people and they know their stuff. Well run and a good crowd. We'll be back to drink, we'll be back to play more rock n roll!

Dog friendly pub with friendly staff members and friendly people. They serve good beer and have a nice beer garden. I imagine in other times there would be regular events put on. Great pub and even better people

Really friendly staff. Big supporters of all music scenes in York - not only working with local promoters, bands and DJs to put on gigs and nights but also supportive of gigs at other venues.

Nice pub with friendly bar staff.... not a place if you're a wine bar type more for down to earth people .... good music , nice pint with reasonable prices. What you see is what you get .

We took over managing the Spread Eagle at the end of April with the mindset to improve the reputation..and I believe we are achieving that...we have fantastic live music every weekend Friday to Sunday...we are packed to the rafters for our Open jam/mic nights every Tuesday so much so we have started running an open mic night on a Thursday too..every Sunday during the summer we have BBQ and live DJ in our enclosed beer garden from 1 to 7 and ALL our events are FREE entry..and best of all our kitchen shall be re-opening soon with prices to suit your pockets and delicious home made food to fill your belly.. Yes we still have improvements to make and we will get there...BUT just don't take my word for it...come see us and enjoy 1 of our many great deals..

A brilliant little local pub, traditional style with live music on the weekends. Would definitely recommend as a change from the normal tourist focused pubs
