Great service with knowledgeable and helpful staff and a very cosy atmosphere. Some cool historic features in the building with old beams, stools, tables etc. I read the oldest parts of the building date to 600 years of age. Known as The Anglers Arms from 1896 to 1994, signage for the previous name is still up in the bar. I loved the Jennings Sneck Lifter ale on draught. As a plus there was even a small beer garden hidden behind the back of the bar.
Classic old style city pub, fair prices quick service, the landlord had the gents plumbing in bits on Friday evening, footy was on but jobs to do. Well going by that you know the beer lines are clean. I recommend the Snecklifter🍺👍
Great pub whith a aistmoric feeling and a great selection for drink would recommended a visit to this lovely old pub
What a smashing pub with a nice ale rack for one to explore. Chirpy and happy staff and a general nice feel here.
Have visited this lovely establishment more than once, on every occasion I was met with fantastic service from knowledgeable bar staff ( these guys know their ale) and beautiful hand pumped ale. As well as a great range of ales they have a selection of locally sourced pies and pasties, which myselfy and my partner devoured with gusto! All in all a great pub with great staff and from what we could assertain a massive local following.
Excellent pub great atmosphere & well kept cask beer
Atmosphere, cosy, live band, real ale! Absolute must visit if in York
Cosy friendly traditional pub. Mulled wine by the fire
A traditional pub with a great atmosphere friendly service in the hear of beautiful York. Not to be missed!
After weeks of tracking down a good school friend of mine, luke seaton. Unfortunately he wasn't working but the guest ale was to die for and the atmosphere was simply fantastic! I will be back when I'm next up in the area! Get in touch luke!
We had a great night and met lovely people, bar staff were excellent, love from Scotland xx
Nice pint in friendly surroundings. Sadly, not a ghost to be seen anywhere!
Excellent pub great atmosphere and a lovely pint of Guinness
Amazing little pub the girl serving was brilliant a credit to the business very nice and helpful.loads of character very old pub it was a pleasure to have few drinks there I would say possibly the best pub in York City
Favourite place for a guest beer in York, that lets children and grumpy older sisters in, always a decent choice of Yorkshire, and further afield, brews, usually a darker stout or porter, that I prefer. Landlady and landlord are friendly, and will chat when it's quiet, staff are quick and friendly also. Pork pies are worth going in for.
Great old fashioned pub. Nice pint
Love this place. If you want a traditional style pub with lots of character then please visit, you will enjoy every pint 👍👍🍺
Fab pub. Brilliant live music. Definitely worth a visit.
Good pub, average choice of local ales, stuff on the toes. Quite small and the worst thing was that it was overheated. A few degrees lover will save on expenses and make the place more comfortable
A very nice pub with a great selection of well kept ales. It's had many names, Anglers Arms just one of them, nice to see them not hiding the fact, makes a pleasant change
Proper york pub with good beer and not just poncy pale ales and lager Not packed out with tourists but busy enough.
Decent enough beer range, nothing spectacular however. Lovely old building. Nice traditional English pub
